The  Environmental Assessmants have been completed and it apears the next phase in highway 404 expansion is ready to roll. In 2015, the Stephen Leacock Lakeway,  40-kilometre causeway will be construced through the middle of Lake Simcoe, connecting Sutton and Orillia. Though the new road will bisect one of Ontario’s largest and most beautiful lakes, boat traffic will still be able to cross the road under a massive arch that is to be constructed midway across the lake.  Engineers estimate the 300 milliion tons of sand and gravel that will be required during the constuction phase can be most easily obtained from the nearby Carden Alvar.

Aretha Curlew, a longtme resident of Zepher told the Yolk that “it’s about time this causeway got built!” She estimated it would shave 30 minutes off her weekly trip to the Casino Rama slots.
