Most rumours of who will be attending and who won’t have not been confirmed, but this year’s York Region Multimedia Film Festival promises to be a roaring success that will attract an impressive roster of new films. There is always room for another flick, however, so you should keep an eye on the festival website for information on how to enter your latest movie — and to check the screening schedule. This year’s deadline for film submissions is February 18th, 2011 (check the festival website for deadlines for other media entries). The Festival itself happens in May.
Local film makers have been hard at work for many months and fully expect to blow your mind with this year’s line-up. You may already have been lucky enough to catch some of the on-location filming around the region. We’ve heard rumours of epic midnight battle scenes played out in the Holland Marsh with thousands of extras (just ask anyone from Keswck where they were last Saturday night). Others have reported watching a crew film aerial tight-rope walking between church spires in Richmond Hill. We certainly hope there will be documentaries on the Upper Canada Mall Tunneller and the recent Mount Albert expedition.
The point is, you should definitely attend this year’s festival to experience all that is strange and wonderful about our region.
